Located at the corner of the South Dakota, Minnesota, and Iowa borders, the Tri-State Monument is a weathered marker that is situated just off of 268th Street.

While the exact intersection of states is technically located on the road, the Tri-State Monument can be found just off the street, making for a safer spot to stop and take pictures.

Why isn’t the marker in the exact spot? In addition to the safety aspect, the original Tri-State Monument was the victim of several car accidents, as it was located in the middle of the road and seemed to take many drivers by surprise.

In place of the Monument itself, the exact, middle-of-the-road spot is now marked with a small hole that commemorates where the shrine once stood.
