Despite the fact that it’s technically still autumn, many regions of the U.S. will soon experience what’s been deemed an arctic blast. According to the forecast, areas from Oklahoma City all the way up to the Northeast will experience plummeting temperatures and plenty of snow. Here’s more on the latest forecast:

Frosty temperatures arrived in the U.S. on Monday. CNN reported that over 500 flights had been canceled from O’Hare and Midway International Airport due to weather conditions.

And while frosty conditions are certainly not rare for areas like Chicago and the Northeast, it’s the timing that’s unusual. In fact, the freezing temperatures are set to tie or break hundreds of temperature records in the U.S.

This past Monday morning, as of 7:00 a.m., the temperature in Malta, Montana was a chilling -24 degrees F.

The areas that are predicted to get the most snow are the Great Lakes region through the Northeast. In fact, southwestern Michigan is predicted to see up to 30 inches of snow, with other areas near the U.S./Canadian border getting a foot.
