Now that it’s officially November, we can start thinking about the upcoming winter. Are we in for a snowy season or will milder conditions prevail? Updated predictions are in, and you may not like what they have to say.
We shared a much harsher winter forecast for the Grand Canyon State earlier this season, but things are looking quite a bit different now.
Flickr/mfoubister Rather than a wet and chilly season initially predicted, warmer than usual weather is likely on the horizon.
NOAA’s Climate Prediction Center suggests we’ll see over a 60% chance of above-average temperatures in Arizona.
Flickr/swingle That may or may not be good news based on whether you’re an outdoorsy person or prefer to stay warm and cozy during this time of year.
Some areas of the state have already received snow this year, so more is definitely not out of the question entirely.
Flickr/jirka_matousek This is because neither of the telltale currents, El Nino or La Nina, are present, leaving meteorologists scratching their heads.
As far as rain, it could go either way.

This is incredibly unfortunate, as some level of drought currently extends across 92% of Arizona.

So, it’s kind of a toss-up in terms of how this winter will pan out, meaning we should prepare for anything.
