October is usually the best month for fall foliage in Utah, and this year is no exception. Grab a pair of hiking shoes and get outdoors to see it in all its splendor — it often doesn’t last for long!
One great spot right now is the Bear Canyon Suspension Bridge in Draper. It’s a fun, easy stroll with some great scenery, and it’s great for kids and pets, too.
Your fall foliage adventure starts at Orson Smith Trail Head Park. You’ll find it on Highland Drive in Draper.

Orson Smith was the first homesteader on this mountain. He owned and explored 162 acres back in 1916. Orson was a true nature-lover who enjoyed hiking this area.

Now it’s your turn to explore this place! The city of Draper purchased three acres here in 2003. The park overlooks the Salt Lake Valley, and it offers restrooms, picnic areas, a small playground, and some trails.

There’s plenty of fall foliage to be found here. Make sure to have your phone charged, or bring your camera along.

The trail to the bridge is a 2.3-mile loop. It’s an easy stroll with an elevation change of around 400 feet.

The bridge was completed on July 1, 2015, and was funded with donations made by residents of Draper City. It spans 185-feet across Bear Canyon.

Stroll out to the middle and get a good look. The view is magnificent!

The bridge connects hikers to the Bonneville Shoreline Trail, and you might consider exploring down this path for a while, too. The trail sits high in the foothills above Salt Lake City, providing its own stellar views.
