Fall in North Carolina means pumpkin spice, changing colors and (finally!) a chill in the air. It also means time with friends and family as we all get a little cozier. While the weather is still warm enough to enjoy ourselves outside we’re looking for the best ways to get outside and enjoy all the things that this season has to offer. Top of the list? Lake Glenville!

While there are a lot of forests and lakes to enjoy here in North Carolina, we recommend heading about eight miles from Cashiers to enjoy Lake Glenville.

The lake includes 26 miles of beautiful shoreline along with three nearby waterfalls.

This reservoir lake has turquoise water, which is totally inviting in the summer. But it’s the fall we might love most.

The setting is perfection. Picture rolling hills, thick forested cove areas and plenty of places to disappear for the day to get some peace and quiet. This is especially true in the fall when less people are visiting.

Glenville Lake is about 1,500-acres and it sits 3,500 ft. above sea level. That means plenty of ways to take in those incredible Blue Ridge views.

The lake water is fed by five different mountain streams which means it’s totally clear in some areas. Somehow this makes the fall foliage reflections even more special.

There are plenty of things to do here that don’t include swimming, like fishing, boating, kayaking, and hiking. We definitely recommend visiting the three waterfalls!

It’s easy to spend a fall day here with a grill and picnic blanket totally surrounded by fall foliage that somehow feels more beautiful in North Carolina than it does anywhere else.

And, for an extra-special, visit make sure you head to the Pines Recreation Area. It has free admission and provides access to a lovely beach.
