The park covers 856 acres of wooded land, and there’s plenty to see and do. Consider visiting for at least a weekend trip.

Buckhorn Lake was created in 1967, when the Buckhorn Dam was built over the Kentucky River. The lake has a surface area of 1,230 acres.

You’ll find two hiking trails here, so lace up your boots and start exploring. The one-mile-long Moonshine Trail is easy enough for most hikers, and features interpretive signs to help you learn more about the area.

All kinds of wildlife call this beautiful slice of nature “home,” including herds of deer and elk that are often easy to spot during your adventures. During winter months, you can even see nesting bald eagles.

Anglers love Buckhorn! Its large population of muskies, as well as largemouth and Kentucky bass, crappie, and bluegill, are just waiting in these depths.

If you don’t have a fishing pole, no worries. The park has fishing equipment that you can check out for free.
