If you’ve spent any amount of time in Phoenix, you’ve likely seen a rather eclectic building looming in the distance. That would be Tovrea Castle, a historic structure that’s been around for nearly 100 years – and it’s open to the public for tours.
Constructed in 1929, this three-tiered historic landmark has been dubbed “The Wedding Cake” due to its strong resemblance to a towering dessert.

Officially called Tovrea Castle at Carraro Heights, the structure is named after both of its former owners.
Google/Jason Hartleb Alessio Carraro oversaw the construction process, envisioning a grand hotel with equally opulent surroundings. His dream was short-lived, as the castle was purchased by E.A. and Della Tovrea in 1931.
Today, you can experience one of Arizona’s most prominent landmarks firsthand on a 90-minute tour that includes the cactus gardens, main floor, basement, and gift shop.

Tours are held at 7:30 a.m. on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday until the end of September, then pushed back to 8:30 a.m. and 10:30 a.m. from October to December.
