Suspension bridges are not very common in North Dakota. In fact, there are only five of them in the state, most quite small. One of the most iconic suspension bridges happens to be located on the Valley City State University campus, and it truly is incredible. Walk across it yourself and you’ll find it to be both scenic and fascinating. Here’s why:

The bridge spans across the Sheyenne River and is 90 feet long. You can easily reach it from either side and admire the view it provides. It’s for foot traffic only, so it’s perfect for a stroll.

The bridge was built in 1901 and has been a gem of the City of Bridges for over a century. It was considered a work of art when it was built, and it still is today.

Still mostly intact over the past century, the bridge was partially restored and reinforced in 1904. It still stands beautifully to this day.

When visiting the bridge, you can read the informative signs about it or simply enjoy looking over the Sheyenne. Either way, it is a treat.
