Petaluma’s historic Washoe House is an impressive structure. Not only was it constructed all the way back in 1859, but it was even sturdy enough to survive the famous 1906 earthquake! Today, it’s doing better than ever and it’s well-worth a stop when you’re in town.

Back in the day, Washoe House was a typical roadhouse that provided both warmth and supplies for many stagecoach travelers. Prospectors would drink the night away and sleep in one of its rooms after a long day of looking for gold in the nearby mines.

According to local lore, Ulysses S. Grant himself once made a speech from the house’s balcony. However, there isn’t any historical evidence to back this claim. Regardless, this place is filled with history, and it’s amazing to think it’s still here.

Not only is it still standing, but the Washoe House has also started operating as a restaurant and bar since September 2018. Today, guests can stop by this historic roadhouse and dine on some wholesome comfort food, including everything from burgers and salads to entire steak dinners.
