There are places in Maine we’ve all seen. The larger waterfalls, the more notable covered bridges and the coast. But there are some smaller spots that are also worth seeing. These are the spots hidden away mostly known by those who live within walking distance. While there might be people who’d prefer to keep these place secret, the reality is that we all deserve to experience the nature of this beautiful state. This little waterfall is a great example. Hop in the car, maneuver around the trees and you’ll find it! If you visit be sure to follow the rules of Leave no Trace. Carry out everything you carry in and remember that nature was here first. We’re all just visitors. Now get planning!
Of all the waterfalls in Maine, this little one might be our favorite! But, it’s going to take a bit of searching to find it.

A great place to start is Melby’s! Grab some snacks (but don’t leave trash!) and head down 5 Kezars Road.

Most of this road is dirt, but don’t give up. You’re on the right track!

If you’re visiting in the summer you’re likely to find cars parked nearby. This is how you’ll know you’re in the right place. If there aren’t any cars, great! That means you might have the place to yourself. Just look for the small pull out to your left.

From here you’ll need to walk downhill towards the stream. Be very careful here! The exposed roots and rocks make this short walk a bit difficult.

As you get closer you’ll see the Kezar River.

And this is where you’ll find the gorge. This makes a great swimming hole in the warmer months. In fact, swimming is the best way to get up-close to the falls.

Simply hop in and swim towards the back of the small swimming hole. Hidden behind the rocks is the waterfall.

But, most of the year is probably going to be too cold for a dip. Don’t worry! You can still see the falls from the top.

After a rain you’ll probably be able to hear the falls first.

While not the tallest or largest waterfall in the state, Kezar Falls is a lovely day trip in Oxford County.
