Long before there was even a name given to the large, bi-pedal creature now known as Bigfoot, there were sightings and reports of Sasquatch. Witnesses report the creature as being anywhere from six to nine feet in height and covered in black, dark brown or even reddish hair. Just last summer, the Marion-based Facebook group called Bigfoot 911 reported a sighting – and the news went viral. It seems everyone wants to see the legendary creature with their own two eyes.

Later this year the North Carolina town of Marion is hosting their second annual Bigfoot Festival, and if all goes well, the guest of honor will actually show up.

If anyone can coax him out, it will be the town of Marion. They really (we mean REALLY) know how to throw a great festival.

For instance, the first Saturday of every June, Marion is home to the Liver Mush Festival — which features pig races and a Liver Mush eating contest, among other fun events.

In April, Marion will host their annual Donut Festival. The sweet treats just may coax Sasquatch out of hiding! But if they don’t, then the second annual Bigfoot Festival, scheduled for September 14, 2019 in downtown Marion, may be the ticket. Afterall, it’s just plain rude for a guest of honor to not show up for his own party, right?

All of the details of the festival events haven’t been released yet. But perhaps the fun day will include a faux Bigfoot footprint casting competition, or even a costume contest.

Expect a lot of vendors to be there too, selling everything from food to Bigfoot-related keepsakes.

Even if the guest of honor is a no-show, you’ll at least get to go home with a Bigfoot tee to remember the occasion — until next year!
