There are landmarks that we can walk around and into, parks with easily accessible trails, and overlooks that are just steps from the parking lot. This is a great thing for those of us who want to see our state, but just can’t get out into the middle of nowhere. If you love the history and beauty of Kentucky, then you’ll want to pay a visit to the Weisenberger Mill. Located in charming Midway, this historic mill is still running today and it also happens to have a scenic waterfall right next to it. In fact, you can practically drive right up to the beautiful Weisenberger Mill waterfall in Kentucky, making it a worthy stop when you’re in the area.
Midway is a delightful town located between Lexington and Frankfort in the heart of horse country.

The Weisenberger Mill is located just outside of town and started way back in early 1865.
Google/Salah Shakir Six generations of the Weisenberger family have owned and operated it and they continue to do so today. This working mill is still producing goods and is a legendary business in the Bluegrass.

The creek runs alongside the mill and forms a scenic waterfall that is easily visible from the road.
Flickr/C Hanchey This is a popular place for photographers who enjoy capturing the natural beauty that surrounds this historic building. It looks a little different right now, however, as the ailing bridge was recently removed so it can be replaced.
This was a project that has spanned several years as the bridge has been closed for as long.
Google/Joe Lynch It was deemed unsafe and closed to vehicle traffic. The new bridge is said to be completed by May of 2020. In the meantime, you can still reach the Mill and enjoy views of the creek and waterfall from various vantage points around the property.
When you do visit the waterfall, be sure to check if the Mill’s shop is open to pick up a few baking and cooking necessities.
