Plenty of great restaurants in New Hampshire are housed in gorgeous historic buildings, and lots of them have amazing origin stories. Even so, one Lakes Region restaurant stands out for its incredible story of overcoming adversity (and for its amazing food).
Those who’ve spent much time around Moultonborough probably remember the Woodshed restaurant, which started in the ’70s in a cozy old barn and farmhouse and quickly became a local favorite. Sadly, the restaurant burned to the ground in 2013, and the owners were unable to rebuild.

However, one customer couldn’t let his fond memories of the restaurant go, and decided to rebuild and restart the restaurant with a new fine-dining spin. He was able to locate an 200-year old barn in Strafford, which was dismantled, moved, and rebuilt on the site of the old Woodshed. The new space puts a slightly contemporary spin on the old restaurant while retaining the old-barn coziness and charm.

They even replicated the old porch, long decorated with the school pennants of regular customers.

A cozy pub area rounds out the space and gives another option for dining.

The food is just as beautiful as the surroundings - the flower pot bread baked fresh each day is worth the trip in itself.
