There’s nothing quite as magical as a sky filled with hundreds of glowing lanterns. Luckily, you don’t have to take our word for it. Simply mark your calendar for the upcoming Lights Festival, and you can see the enchanting sight for yourself. Take a look:
The New Orleans Lights Festival will take place on December 7, 2019, at the Hancock County Fairgrounds in Kiln, MS.
The Lights/Facebook You’re probably wondering why the New Orleans Lights Festival is in Mississippi, and there’s actually a very good reason. The Lights Festival requires a venue with lots and lots of open space, which is hard to come by in New Orleans.
The event is put on by a company called The Lights, which holds sky lantern festivals all over the world – from Mexico to Singapore.

During the festival, hundreds (and sometimes thousands) of attendees simultaneously light sky lanterns and let them take flight, making for a truly unforgettable experience.

Worried about what happens to the lanterns once they return to the Earth? Don’t be. A clean-up crew gathers all the lanterns after the festival.
The Lights/Facebook Also, the lanterns are 100% biodegradable, so if for some reason a lantern can’t be collected, it won’t harm the environment or wildlife.
Entry to the fest is $39 - $55 for adults (ages 13 and up). The admission cost includes a sky lantern and marker, so you can personalize your lantern with pictures, text, or anything else you can think of.
The Lights/Facebook Kids tickets are available for festival-goers ages 4 – 12, while children 3 and under are free. Keep in mind, though, kids tickets do not include a lantern.
When attending The Lights Festival, there are a few things you should keep in mind. For one, it’s outside, so you should dress warmly or bring along a jacket or sweater.
The Lights/Facebook Merchandise, such as blankets and sweatshirts, will also be available for purchase at the festival.
There’s more to the festival than glowing lanterns, though.
The Lights/Facebook There’s also live music. You’ll likely want to stay a while; make sure to bring a chair, so you’ll be nice and comfy.
