Living in the upper right hand corner of the United States means that our residents are no strangers to harsh winter weather and massive amounts of snow. It wasn’t too long ago that we were reminiscing over New York’s insane Snowvember Storm that hit the city of Buffalo in 2014, but do you also recall when the North American Christmas Blizzard of 2010 struck the Big Apple? Winter weather in New York can definitely be memorable and it was that particular year for those in the thick of it. It’s remembered by many as the largest blizzard in New York in recent years and these pictures will take you right back to those snowy days.
Affecting a handful of locations within in the United States, this historic blizzard was the belated Christmas gift that nobody asked for.

The storm’s power was greatly underestimated until about 24 hours before it hit New York, leaving the city unprepared for what was about to come.

On December 27th, 2010 the epic nor’easter blanketed New York in snow and became one of our most historic storms and what many know as the largest blizzard in New York in recent years.

Thousands of residents were stuck on thruways and roads throughout New York and Staten Island, while others were trapped inside of trains for several hours.

Since it was right after the holiday, Sanitation Departments were left short staffed and found themselves struggling to clear out all of the snow.

Our residents out on Long Island and in other surrounding areas were able to witness the intense winds that were gusting through the city at 35 MPH, blowing unbelievable amounts of snow all over the place.

By Monday December 29th, the storm had finally calmed down, leaving areas of New York hit with anywhere from 12 to 32 inches of snow.

By Monday Central Park had seen 20 inches of snow, making it the 6th worst blizzard in New York’s history since the National Weather Station began keeping track back in 1869.
