Fort Abraham Lincoln State Park has quite a few historical buildings and artifacts, preserving the unique story of this area. One of the most famous parts of it is the old blockhouse - standing tall up on a hill and overlooking an unbeatable view of Bismarck and Mandan.

Every year, the park hosts a special hike called Light the Blockhouse Hike. Visitors will take a scenic hike as the sun sets up to the building for a special reason. This year it will be on December 15, 2019, starting at 5:30 PM.

At the top, they will light up the blockhouse with the many strings of holiday lights while participants enjoy the view, creating quite the stunning scene.

After the lighting ceremony, hikers can head back down to the visitor’s center to warm up.

This place will also be decorated both inside and out with lights, trees, garlands, and more. There will be fires roaring outside as well as inside, plus refreshments.

Santa Claus will also be making an appearance by the fire inside, giving kids a chance to get photos with him and let him know what they’re hoping to see under the tree this year.
