Located closest to the town of Pioche, the historic state park is open year-round so visitors can treat themselves to a variety of recreational activities. Boating, fishing, swimming, hiking, camping, and so much more is enjoyed here all year long.

It’s hard to be anything but completely floored by the views of the 59-acre Eagle Valley Reservoir. Surrounded by striking rock formations and endlessly fascinating landscapes, you’ll feel completely immersed in the natural beauty of this lovely park. You may just find yourself wondering how you went so long without visiting it before.

However, along with its beautiful landscapes comes a long and fascinating history. Archaeologists have reason to believe Spring Valley was occupied as far back as 5,500 BCE. The area was first officially settled back in the 1860s by Mormon pioneers, and reminders of them remain in the park to this day.

Original Mormon homesteads can still be spotted within Spring Valley State Park. Visitors usually find themselves gravitating to the handful of century-old buildings, including the Millet Ranch which is used as the park’s official headquarters. You can just feel the history resonating within these walls!

In fact, one day may not be enough to take in all that the park has to offer. In that case, you can plan to spend the night in one of Spring Valley’s 37-site campground called Horsethief Gulch Campground. Reservations aren’t required and sites are given on a first-come, first-served basis.
