If you’re the kind of Montanan who loves to fully embrace all four seasons, we have some good news for you. The latest Farmers’ Almanac predictions for winter 2020 have been released, and it looks like a chill in the air (and snow on the ground) will hit the Treasure State soon. Grab some extra blankets and get ready to weather a cold winter.

The severity of Montana’s winters vary, but it’s safe to say they’re rarely tame.

Farmers Almanac Last year, we enjoyed a fairly mellow winter, although it wasn’t without its bitter cold. This year, however, we’d better be prepared.

Of course, winter weather varies throughout our state.

Cat Wendt / Flickr Typically, it’s common common for the areas east of the Continental Divide to be in the deep-freeze of sub-zero temperatures. Meanwhile, Western Montana may be up to 50 degrees warmer. All parts of Montana can see significant snowfall, but typically, Western Montana gets more.

This winter, the 2020 Old Farmer’s Almanac is warning us to expect a parade of snowstorms for all northern states.

Snowfall is predicted to be above average in the north and below average in the south, with the snowiest periods arriving in early January, early February, and early March.

According to the Farmers Almanac, the coldest parts of the winter will be in mid-December, early January, and from late January into mid-February.

Of course, the Farmers Almanac isn’t always spot on. The predictions for last winter weren’t entirely accurate.
