Winter may seem like it’s far away right now, but it’s going to be here before you know it. It seems like winter weather is always sneaking up on us every year, without fail. However, you can count yourself a little more prepared after reading about the Farmers’ Almanac’s predictions regarding this upcoming winter. In fact, you may be very pleased with what they say is in store for us!
The Farmers’ Almanac just released their predictions for 2019-2020 winter weather, and it’s not looking very good for a large portion of the country. The Almanac even nicknamed this winter the “Polar Coaster”, and they expect this upcoming season to be full of ups and downs.

But what do they say about Nevada? Unlike the rest of the country, our region will not be affected by the “Polar Coaster.” Instead, the Almanac predicts cool weather with normal amounts of precipitation for the southwest region of the country, including Nevada.

This is good news for those who enjoy the mild winters that Nevada weather often brings. We may live in a desert, but that doesn’t mean we don’t have our rocky winters here and there!

Whereas the rest of the country (including the Great Lakes, Northern Plains, and the Northeast) are expected to experience frigid temperatures this winter, the West is predicted to experience near-normal winter temperatures.

According to the Almanac, we can expect the coldest part of winter to occur in the last week of January and through the beginning of February. Regardless, these temperatures should be nothing we Nevadans can’t handle.

If you’re a skier or snowboarder, don’t sweat it. Although we may not experience the icy temperatures the Eastern states will have to endure, the Almanac is calling for near-normal precipitation for the Southwest. This means you’ll still likely have plenty of snow to play in when the time comes.

Winters in Nevada can vary a lot by region, but we can definitely consider ourselves happy campers if these predictions turn out to be correct. However, only time will tell what this winter season has in store for us!
