Summer just barely ended and winter seems like it’s worlds away, but it’ll be here before you know it and it’s always good to be prepared for what it may bring. Winters in Northern California can be hard to predict, but the Farmers’ Almanac just released its prediction for the 2019-2020 winter and we think you’ll be thrilled with what they have to say. Keep reading to see what kind of weather is in store for us during the upcoming months!
It may be hard to believe, but the Old Farmers’ Almanac has been publishing long-range weather predictions every year since 1818. Only time will tell if there’s any truth in these predictions, but regardless, we think you’ll be pleased with what they have to say.

For a large portion of the country, the Almanac has predicted a “Polar Coaster Winter” ahead. They expect bitterly cold winter conditions to affect all areas east of the Rockies and all the way to the Appalachians. But what does it have to say about California?

When it comes to Northern California, the Almanac predicts that we are in for a winter with cool temperatures and normal amounts of precipitation. This is great news for those who enjoy milder winters without too much cold or snow to worry about!

This means we can expect the typical cold temperatures that winter brings, but definitely not as freezing as the eastern part of the country. They also predict the coldest part of the season will occur during the final week of January and last through the beginning of February.

According to these predictions, the eastern third of the country will experience above-normal winter precipitation. However, the Pacific Northwest and Southwest will get to enjoy near-normal amounts of snow and rain.

After our particularly snowy winter of 2018, these mild predictions may sound just fine to you. But those who do enjoy the snow and cold shouldn’t fret. Those classic winter conditions will still be found in those higher elevation areas for you to enjoy.

There’s no telling whether or not these winter predictions will come true, but we can’t say we’d be upset if they did! Although, being prepared for the worst definitely never hurts.
