Every year as summer dwindles out, the longstanding Farmers’ Almanac releases their predictions for wintertime weather. If you’ve lived in Idaho for long, you know that winters can be all over the place in our state. They range from endless snowfall and frigid temperatures to mild chilliness and dry conditions. It really just depends on the year! This year, you may find yourself pleased with what the Farmers’ Almanac has predicted for us.
This year, the Farmers’ Almanac has dubbed the winter of 2020 a “Polar Coaster” of varying temperatures and conditions. Overall, they are calling for freezing, frigid, and frosty weather for two-thirds of the country. But what about Idaho?

Luckily for us, Idaho is not one of the regions that’s expected to be part of the “Polar Coaster”. In fact, the Almanac is calling for a chilly winter for Idahoans, with normal precipitation.

This is definitely not the worst news ever—unless you’re one of those people that likes the freezing cold and constant rain and snowfall. In fact, it sounds like upcoming winter is going to be most definitely manageable, without being unseasonably warm or dry.

According to the Farmers’ Almanac’s predictions, you can expect the coldest point of the season to arrive during the last week of January and last through the beginning of February.

Just how cold it’s expected to be is hard to pinpoint, but it shouldn’t be anything a good coat, hat, and gloves can’t handle. Additionally, the snow and rain are expected to occur at a normal amount for Idaho, so no “Snowpocalypse 2.0”—thankfully!

The big question on a lot of people’s minds (especially those who don’t love the winter) is “When’s spring?” According to the Almanac’s long-range outlook, we can expect winter to linger in the eastern regions of the country and spring to arrive soonest across the Pacific Northwest and Southwest.

Overall, this winter is looking pretty good for those of us who love the lower temperatures and snowy landscapes that winter has to offer without the intensity that past seasons have brought us. Now to wait and see if these predictions come true!
