With Halloween quickly approaching, you’re probably looking for ways to have some spooky fun. Horror movies are always a good choice when craving a scare. But why go with just any horror movie when you can watch one that was inspired by events that happened right here in Wisconsin? Read on for all the terrifyingly true details.
In 2017, the supernatural thriller genre gained another “based on actual events” movie, The Bye Bye Man .
The Bye Bye Man/Facebook The movie is about three college students, who, through the use of a Ouija board, unleash a demonic serial killer.
Though the plot seems like a complete work of fiction, it’s not. The supernatural story is actually based on a series of events that took place in Sun Prairie, WI.
Royalbroil/Wikimedia Frighteningly fascinating, the true story of the Bye Bye Man was first recounted years ago in Robert Damon Schneck’s story, The Bridge to Body Island. And while Schneck didn’t experience the Bye Bye Man firsthand, a friend of his did.
During the fall of 1990, Schneck’s friend, Eli, moved into off-campus housing with two other college students, Katherine and Jonathan – a choice that would forever change the threesome’s lives.

The discovery prompted the three to conduct a supernatural experiment. In the name of science, they used the board in an assortment of ways, such as writing responses instead of saying them out loud. They also used it in the dark while two were blindfolded and the other armed with a flashlight to record the answers.
Before long Eli and his roommates were communicating with a demonic spirit, which called itself Spirit of the Board.

At some point while communicating with the Spirit of the Board, the three college friends received some frightening news – the Bye Bye Man was coming for them.
