Comprised of upper and lower lakes, the Blue Lakes are stunning not only for their color, but for their surrounding wildflowers, cliffs, and mountains as well.

If you have never seen these magnificent pools of blue before, you are not alone, as the lakes can only be accessed via a nine-mile hike (round trip) through the rough and bumpy San Juans.

With an elevation gain of 2,370 feet, this trail definitely isn’t for the faint of heart, so be sure to trek with caution!

But if you’re up for the challenge, the Blue Lakes are situated within the Mt. Sneffels Wilderness Area of the Uncompahgre National Forest, and they truly must be seen to be fully appreciated.
