Fort Ransom State Park is one of North Dakota’s hidden gems. The river valley it is located in is full of patches of woodlands that turn into a gorgeous array of colors in the fall.

Through September and October, you can see the bright and beautiful hues in the park by camping, seeing the scenic overlook, and hiking the many trails available.

The North Fork Trail is a great option for fall foliage hiking within the park. At only just over a mile and a half long, it is a short and sweet hike that’ll take you through some of the prettiest parts of the area.

The trail winds through patches of oak woodland, along a stream, and down into the valley’s hills.

The trail is open to hiking, mountain biking, and horseback riding, and it also connects to other great trails so you can continue on and get a good tour of Fort Ransom State Park.

There are hidden spots all throughout the park that include a historic farmstead, cabins, yurts, and many other scenic sights. These spots are also available to extend your visit overnight and take in as much of the season as possible.
