If you’ve spent enough time in the Bluegrass State you know that it’s one of the most beautiful in the country. While it’s true that we might be slightly biased, it’s impossible to deny this fact the more time you spend outside! Whether you’re a novice hiker or someone who’s been hitting the trails for decades, Kentucky offers tons of opportunities to breathe in the fresh air on a trail. One of our favorites is accessible to those looking for something less strenuous. But trust us when we say you won’t be missing out on any of the views!

Head to the Big South Fork area, located in one of the most beautiful parts of the state.

This region crosses the border into Tennessee and the Big South Fork Area allows visitors the opportunity to hike to unique rock formations, waterfalls, and some of the most beautiful overlooks anywhere.

One of our favorite overlooks is the Bear Creek Overlook and the hike to get there is relatively easy. First, head to the parking lot located directly at the trailhead. From here simply follow the signs for the Bear Creek overlook, which are all fairly obvious.

The route itself is only about a half-mile round trip on an out-and-back trail.

The journey to get there is just as beautiful as the ultimate payoff. You’ll be walking amongst thick foliage and lots of tall trees towards the tippy-edge of this mountain.

This is a great way to experience a landscape that’s truly unique compared to other parts of Kentucky.

As always, be sure to take care when walking near overlooks and other mountain ridges. Luckily, this overlook has a wooden deck allowing visitors to get a closer look at the beauty that surrounds them.
