Located in Turner Falls Park, Collings Castle is an abandoned castle tucked away in the hills overlooking Turner Falls. It’s a short hike up to this expansive stone structure that was built in the 1930s…and it’s worth the trek. Lace up those hiking boots and explore this historic castle that’s rumored to be haunted.
The waterfalls are the most famous attraction in Turner Falls Park, but you’ll soon see there’s so much more to discover. There’s an old castle - Colling’s Castle - hiding along the hillside that’s an incredible place to explore.

Collings Castle is just a short hike down the path from the falls. It’s included in the admission to the park, and is a historic structure that is a must-see attraction.

The castle was built in the early 1930s by Dr. Ellsworth Collings, Dean of Education at the University of Oklahoma. It served as his summer home for he and his family to gather with friends and enjoy the expansive views of the Arbuckle Mountains.

The stairs leading up to the castle are very steep and should be hiked with caution. Can you imagine the intense labor it took to get all the stone and building materials up this steep location during the 1930s?

Once you reach the top you’ll notice the castle is dilapidated and run down. The abandoned structure is missing windows, walls and roofs and is being overtaken by nature.

Visitors have reported hearing strange sounds coming from the walls of this abandoned castle. It’s pretty creepy when you get inside and see all the graffiti and dark rooms.

The compound also includes two bunkhouses, two outhouses and a stable area. There’s even more stairs to these buildings, once you reach the main castle, so get those hiking boots ready.

The main house consists of three rooms and two living areas, both with fireplaces. You can still see the rust-colored rose rocks.

You’ll notice the extremely low ceilings and very narrow hallways inside the castle. Historians believe it’s a sign of the harder times during construction. To keep labor to a minimum, the less they thad to build, the cheaper and easier it was to construct.
