Every year, the Farmers’ Almanac releases its winter forecast for regions around the country. Sometimes its predictions are spot-on; other times the folks at the Almanac are a bit off. Here’s what they have to say for Utah this year:
While much of the country is set to face a frigid winter, here in Utah we won’t have the extreme cold and blizzards that folks east of the Rockies can expect, but we will see some chilly temps and above-average snowfall this winter.

The Farmers’ Almanac breaks down large areas of the country into smaller regions. Utah is part of the Intermountain Region, and as you can see, we’re in the southern portion of the region.

Plan to get out your sweaters, scarves and hats and brace yourself for some chilly temps. While the Farmers’ Almanac isn’t anticipating extreme weather for our state, the folks there forecast that our thermometers will be dipping a little lower than normal.

We can also anticipate snowfall that’s a little more plentiful than usual. That’s great news for the ski resorts, and those of us who love to ski and board in our beautiful mountains!

Of course, more snowfall also means more shoveling. But…more shoveling probably means more hot cocoa once you come back into the house, right?

Southern Utah will also experience lower than normal temps and higher than normal precipitation. Folks down there will want to prepare for a wet winter.
