Whether we’re ready for it or not, winter is coming up fast in North Dakota. The seasons are changing and before you know it, there will be snow on the ground. Be prepared for this upcoming 2019-2020 winter by checking out these long term weather predictions by the Farmers’ Almanac. You may not like what they have to say, but here are their predictions for ND and the rest of the Great Plains:
The 2019-20 winter is coming up, and the Farmers’ Almanac has released their extended forecast for the season. The Great Plains, unfortunately, isn’t looking at sunny, warm weather all winter long.

The predictions call for a “polar coaster winter” that may put other areas of the country on a wild ride of ups and downs. For the Great Plains, and North Dakota for that matter, it will be nothing new: frigid and snowy.

The upper midwest will see cold drops and the most frigid temperatures of the country, most likely. These chills can easily dip into the negative degrees and will persist through the winter.

As far as winter precipitation goes, they are claiming it will be above average. You may want to make sure your snowblower is topped off and in working order before the snow starts falling.

They also predict a possible huge blizzard in the third week of January for the region. This may dump massive amounts of snow and cause an arctic cold front to hit other parts of the country in early February.

If you’re hoping for an early spring, you’ll be disappointed. According to the Almanac, wet, heavy snow may continue to fall into April for the midwest.

With such a winter on the horizon, make sure you’re ready for the season with proper winter clothes and gear, a winter survival kit in your car if you get stuck in hazardous driving conditions, and keep up with the local weather reports throughout the season to make sure it’s safe to go ahead with the day’s plans or stay home instead.
