In 1935, a man by the name of Averell Harriman had a brilliant idea to build a resort that would draw more travelers to what’s now known as Sun Valley.

It wasn’t long before the elegant resort attracted celebrities and all sorts of winter enthusiasts. Some of the celebrity guests included Marilyn Monroe, Ernest Hemingway, and the Kennedys.

Even today, some eighty years later, the resort retains its elegance and rugged beauty. This corner of Idaho enjoys lots of sunshine and ideal ski conditions.

The resort also is home to the world’s first ski lift, which was established on one of the park’s main peak, Dollar Mountain.
