You may want to make sure you’re buckled up extra secure in three South Carolina cities that ranked high in a recent analysis performed by QuoteWizard. The company utilized the data compiled in millions of insurance quotes around the country to index the top cities with both the best and the worst drivers in the nation. Unfortunately for South Carolina, three or our top cities ranked in the top 20 for the worst of the worst.
If you’ve ever been cut off in traffic, passed by a speeding driver, seen another driver use their mobile phone while driving, or witnessed any other unsafe practice while another person was operating an automobile here in the Palmetto State, then you may not be surprised some of the worst drivers are found here.

Greenville, Charleston, and Columbia are ranked 18, 19, and 20 on QuoteWizard’s worst cities in the nation for (un)safe drivers.

You may be wondering how QuoteWizard arrived at the rankings.
Flickr/Roland Brunner Millions of insurance quotes around the U.S. were analyzed based on four factors. The analysis was use to arrive at an overall quality of drivers in cities around the country.
The factors were based on incidents reported in each city. They include the number of citations issued for unsafe driving (texting or using a cell phone while driving, running a red light).

Speeding tickets! Although in some places within the worst three cities bumper-to-bumper traffic makes it nearly impossible to speed, there was a higher-than-average number of speeding tickets issued.

And lastly, the number of car accidents helped to pull our three cities into the top 20.

While being anywhere on the list of worst drivers in the nation is a bad thing, not a single South Carolina city made it in the top 35 of best drivers in the nation either. Maybe it’s time to take a look at how we drive – and who knows… maybe if we pull our overall numbers up, then our overall insurance rates will go down. It’s worth a try!
