Spread out over an acre of land within the park, the garden contains around 1,750 roses and 200 different varieties of rose species. It makes for a beautiful place to spend some time simply strolling through the bushes and taking it all in.

The garden was initially established in 1958 by Fred Gallaway, the official City of Reno horticulturist for more than 25 years. The garden is now dedicated in his honor, and it just seems to get bigger and better with every year.

The Municipal Rose Garden is actually one of only 60 gardens across the country that are officially certified as a National Rose Garden by the American Rose Society. Official rose gardens must meet specific standards when it comes to the number of flowers and beds it contains.

The garden is open year-round, but is best viewed from May through September since that’s when they are in bloom. During the peak of their bloom, the scent of the roses is almost overwhelming! It’s simply bliss.
