Steele Mansion Inn & Gathering Hub/Facebook This historic home has a unique history. Upon its construction in 1867, some hailed it as the grandest home in Painesville. The Steele family imported Italian marble, French windows, and more to bring the home to life. As you can see, the home caught fire in 2001 and was left exposed to the elements.
Following the fire and neglect, this once-gorgeous structure fell into serious disrepair.

However, it was purchased in December of 2010 - just months before its scheduled demolition - and was lovingly restored.

Other surprise finds may have been left by the Steele family themselves, or perhaps by staff and students of Lake Erie College. The building is located just across the street from campus and the school owned it for many years.
