A new study ranks South Carolina as the sixth best place in the nation for Christmas spirit and we couldn’t agree more. The Palmetto State deserves a spot in the top ten and number six is just fine with us. Even without the guarantee of a white Christmas, we celebrate in huge fashion. Charleston’s Festival of Lights is among the top drive-through lights shows in the country, Greenville’s Main Street is among the best places ever to get in the holiday spirit, and Brookgreen Gardens transforms into a magical wonderland of lights each Christmas. All this – and more – make South Carolina a wonderful place to celebrate the season.

But special events aside, the folks at GetCenturyLink turned sorting out the jolliest states in the country at Christmastime into a science and published a list ranking the 50 states based on their Christmas spirit.

Surprisingly, the chances for having a White Christmas weren’t factored into the results.

And it’s a good thing! The NOAA recently released the probabilities of a snow-covered Christmas and, as expected, a good portion of the country is expected to wake up to no snow this Christmas.

NOAA So what DID GetCenturyLink use to create the Christmas Spirit rankings?

The group used ten verifiable metrics and then weighted the states to arrive at their numbers.

It also included searches for Christmas movies in each state as well as online searches for gingerbread houses.

Christmas Tweets also played a significant role in boosting the Palmetto State up to the top of the rankings.
