Established in 1949, Skyview Drive-In Movie Theater in southern Illinois has had a fascinating history. It is well known for its double screens, playground, and ability to attract classic cars.

With the development of Cinemascope, which allowed for movies to be shot with a wide angle, wings were added to the screen in 1953, but two years later a tornado destroyed them. The storm caused extensive damage to the playground as well.

The same year they were destroyed, 1955, the screen and playground were rebuilt better than before. A second screen was added to allow for two main features and two double features each night.
