However, there’s one destination that’s proven itself as one of the state’s most popular destinations for seeking out bizarre rock formations: Red Rock Canyon. Ofted noted as one of Nevada’s most beloved natural attractions, Red Rock Canyon is the type of place that every resident should see for themselves at least once. This park is truly unlike any other place on earth, and it’s not to be taken for granted.
Located just a few miles west of Las Vegas, Red Rock Canyon National Conservation Area is one of Nevada’s greatest gems. It’s by far one of the state’s most popular adventure destinations, and it deserves every single ounce of attention it gets.

The canyon’s most prominent feature, of course, are the brilliant red rocks that can be found throughout the park. Made up of Aztec Sandstone, these bizarre rock formations are believed to be up to 190 million years old and boast their iconic red color due to the presence of iron oxide or hematite.

Comprised of nearly 200,000 acres of wild scenic beauty, deciding where to start when it comes to exploring Red Rock can be a challenge. There’s just so much to see! We’ve featured countless hiking trails and adventures within this canyon, but you really can’t go wrong with whatever you decide on.

Red Rock Canyon is a maze of geologic wonders, featuring canyons, peaks, chimneys, chutes, and so much more. It’s like a giant playground for recreation enthusiasts. Hiking is definitely a popular method of trekking through the canyon’s endless rock formations, and the park itself contains 26 different trails to choose from.

However, if you’d like to see the most of Red Rock Canyon in the least amount of time, we recommend setting off on the 13-mile scenic drive which leads you right to the canyon’s best scenic stops. On this drive, you’ll witness all of the canyon’s highs and lows and everything in between.

Climbing is also a popular activity within the park, for obvious reasons. There’s definitely no shortage of things to climb on! Red Rock’s stunning array of boulders and rock faces have attracted climbers from all over the world.
