Don’t let a rainy day discourage your outdoor plans in Arkansas! Some of our more elusive waterfalls only appear after heavy rains. One of these waterfalls to chase is the Rough Hollow Falls in the Ozark National Forest. Let’s lace up our hiking boots and tackle this bushwhack for a rewarding picturesque waterfall.

Hiding in the middle of the forest is the stunning yet overlooked Rough Hollow Falls.

Rick’s Hiking Blog Also known as just Rough Falls, this waterfall is not the easiest to reach. GPS is necessity for navigating this bushwhack and we recommend leaving children at home for this one.

Although the waterfall is off the beaten path, it’s actually not far from the Long Pool Recreation Area.

Google/Joshua Talley The parking area for Rough Hollow Falls is only 1.4-miles south of Long Pool. You can use this map for directions to both. The close proximity of the two scenic spots makes it easy to combine them into a weekend trip for any nature lover.

The trek to the falls will instantly reconnect you to nature.

Google/Todd Given There’s no designated trail but AllTrails does have the out-and-back path mapped for GPS. The hike is only 1.5-miles long but is rated difficult because of the steep elevation gain.

The majority of the trail follows along the creek. The flow of this creek will be a good indication to how heavy the waterfall will be flowing as well.

AllTrails/Amanda Wooten From the parking area the path follows an abandoned logging road. From there it’ll lead to a drainage and Rough Hollow Creek. The trail is available to dogs but we recommend only bringing four-legged friends familiar with hiking trips.

Your hike will be rewarded with more than just one waterfall.

Rick’s Hiking Blog The Ozark National Forest is waterfall country after all. The trek to Rough Hollow Falls also leads you near Ten Tier Falls (pictured), Trigg Falls, Rat Snake Falls, Balcony Falls, and plenty of other small-yet-beautiful unnamed falls. It’s best to allot a full afternoon to explore this area.

As long as we’ve had plenty of rainy weather the fall will be flowing beautifully.
