The city of Shoreline, which sits immediately north of Seattle in King County, is a growing community that’s often overlooked. Since it borders Seattle’s northern city limits, people often mistake it for part of the Emerald City. But not only is Shoreline its own unique city, it’s home to Richmond Beach Saltwater Park, one of Washington’s most underrated beaches.

Richmond Beach Saltwater Park is located on NW 190th Street in Shoreline, but only the locals seem to know it’s there.

Hollie H / TripAdvisor Richmond Beach is actually one of the oldest areas of Shoreline, dating back to 1872 when 98 acres of land was deeded to George Fisher.

In 1889, C. W. Smith bought 63 acres of land here and named it Richmond Beach, after Richmond, England.

Hollie H / TripAdvisor Believe it or not, Smith paid just $4,000 for the land.

The waterfront park has playground equipment, a dog-friendly area, and plenty of pristine beach.

MochaMania / TripAdvisor Whether you park in the upper or lower parking lot, you won’t be far from pristine Puget Sound views.

The sunsets here are absolutely amazing.

While Seattle’s popular beach parks like Alki Beach and Golden Gardens are seemingly always packed, Richmond Beach remains a hidden gem.

MochaMania / TripAdvisor If you time your visit right, you just might enjoy a little solitude.

Visit Richmond Beach Saltwater Park the next time you’re in the Seattle area and you need a break from the crowds.
