Mark your calendars for Saturday, November 2, 2019, when Illinois will host its annual pumpkin drop in the northeast corner of the state.

Bring your rotting Jack-O-Lanterns to this one-day event held at Community Park so that they can be launched through the sky and roll to the bottom of a giant hill. It is free to participate.

Once pumpkins have launched participants can run to the bottom of the hill with bats to finish crushing the pumpkins.

Kids of all ages love the annual pumpkin drop as it gives them an opportunity to get out some energy and see a pumpkin in a form they don’t often see it in.

The point of this event is to compost old Jack-O-Lanterns. By dropping them down the hill and smashing them up, they will decompose and become part of the earth again rather than sit in a landfill.

Participants must register their pumpkins ahead of time to be part of the launch. Those who get their pumpkins on the list before October 26, 2019, will be entered into a drawing to be part of a contest.
