Most of us seek out haunted attractions – from haunted houses to haunted mazes – during the fall. After all, what’s more fun than ghosts, goblins, and monsters jumping out and scaring us into screaming? If you prefer real tales of the paranormal, however, you’ve got plenty of spots to visit in Missouri that might give you the chance to experience a real haunting. Visit Cape Girardeau Restaurant & Lounge, a haunted bar in Missouri, for example, where you can sip wine and maybe even mingle with a ghost.

History whispers throughout Port Cape Girardeau Restaurant, which sits in an historic building that dates back to before 1836. The historic restaurant also boasts sensational views of the Mississippi River.

In its earliest days, the historic building served as the headquarters for Ulysses S. Grant for a brief time during the Civil War.

Local legend says that Grant fancied himself as quite the ladies’ man. He, in fact, was said to have engaged the services of local prostitutes.

One, in particular, had taken a liking to Grant. The woman’s name was, according to local lure, Belle. When Grant left Cape Girardeau, he left behind a distraught Belle.

Belle was so distraught, so goes the story, that she jumped out of a window on an upper floor of the building. She died, but her spirit lives on.

Since it opened as the Port Cape Girardeau Restaurant & Lounge, the eatery has had its fair share of experiences with the paranormal. Numerous diners have told of seeing a woman in 19th century garb.

Believed to be Belle, the apparition has been seen ringing a nautical bell near the bar. Her footsteps have also been heard.

Snap a photo or two at the restaurant, too, and you might even catch an orb in the picture. (Numerous guests have told of seeing orbs during their visit to the restaurant and bar.)

Sip a glass of wine and treat yourself to a delicious dinner, such as hickory pit barbecue, steak, or gourmet burgers. You might even be served a side of the paranormal.
