Portland has a seemingly endless array of cool bars, with all different kinds of themes; if you can’t find a decent place to enjoy live music and a beer in this town, you haven’t looked very hard. There’s one bar that is the epitome of cool…and fans of the cult classic movie The Big Lebowski come here to pay homage to The Dude. Check out The Big Legrowlski:

If you’re an “achiever,” The Big Legrowlski is the place for you. If you don’t know what an “achiever” is, you might want to watch the move The Big Lebowski, starring Jeff Bridges. Then you’ll get it.

The movie, written, produced, and directed by the Coen Brothers, opened at the Sundance Film Festival in 1998. The bar, opened by Jeff Legrowlski, opened in 2014.

The bar offers more than a dozen beers on tap, and you can get yours in a glass, a crowler, or a growler.

If you want to try several before you commit to a growler, get a flight and have at it.

Fans of the movie might try the beer, but they’re definitely going to order a White Russian. More than 12,000 White Russians have been abided here since opening day.

If you’re familiar with the movie, you’ll recognize plenty of nods to the film all around the bar.

Check out all the memorabilia covering the walls, including the original Westerley Cardigan from the movie. It was originally made right here at Pendleton Woolen Mills, and you can buy your own while you’re here.

Walk through the place and just bask in the glow of all that dudeism.

You’ll want to at least pop in for a visit to the Rug Room, where the rug (which really ties the room together) from the movie is proudly framed. Other rugs grace the floors and walls of the bar in various spots, too. After all, if you have more than one room, you need more than one rug.

Of course, this place is much more than just a museum paying homage to a cult classic - it’s a bar that offers live music, trivia, open mic, and more.

Stop by Monday through Friday from 4 p.m. to 2 a.m.; Saturday and Sunday noon to 2 a.m.
