Fall hasn’t even arrived yet, but it’ll be winter before we know it. Is Arizona in for a wallopping, or are more mild conditions on the horizon? Predictions are in, and you’ll like what they have to say.
Old Farmers Almanac recently came out with its predictions for the upcoming winter, and we Arizonans need to start preparing. While the season isn’t expected to be quite as snowy as last year, it will test our resolves in a different way.

Temperatures will be higher than average in November, followed by a sharp decline for the holidays. Conditions are expected to improve slightly come February, with frigidity returning as we head into early spring.

Since monsoon season was rather underwhelming, a little extra rain would actually be good news. It would saturate the ground just enough to ensure a lively, vivacious spring.

As far as the cold goes, it shouldn’t be anything we aren’t used to. Beyond layering our clothes and keeping the fireplace lit, drastic measures likely won’t be necessary.

Even if conditions do take a turn for the worse, there’s always a silver lining. Seeing the Grand Canyon covered in snow is a scene that simply can’t be described in words - especially when viewed from Bright Angel Campground.

Farmers Almanac, however, published 26 years after the original, has a much milder prediction for this winter. It also forecasts cooler temperatures, but with normal precipitation instead of elevated.

Looks like it’s a toss-up in terms of what the colder months will look like this year. We’ll just have to prepare for the worst and see how things pan out!
