Arkansas is brimming with beautiful trails but sometimes you just need a quick getaway with no hiking required. Natural Dam Falls (typically just called Natural Dam) is the perfect park-and-we’re-here trip! Whether you’re trying to organize your little ones or needing a break from your 9-5, this stunning waterfall has quite the payoff for zero effort.
Known as Arkansas’ Little Niagara, Natural Dam is quite the geological wonder.
Flickr/Jonathan Ball It looks human engineered but Natural Dam does live up to its name - the 200-ft. shelf is an Arkansas original! This nature-designed waterfall is stunning every time you see it.
Once you’ve arrived at the falls you can explore the area a bit.
Flickr/Adam Shaver There is not a designated trail but the area does have boulders to climb and gorgeous scenery all along the creek. Fishing is also popular in the upper portion of Mountain Fork Creek.
Warmer seasons inspire other recreational activities around the dam.
Facebook/Arkansas Nature Lovers/Ronnie Milligan The water isn’t terribly deep but the lower portion of the creek is great for wading. There’s nothing quite as refreshing as sitting under a waterfall in the midst of summer!
Summer swims are nice but that’s not the only time to visit Natural Dam.
Flickr/Carol Von Canon Even when the water is in full-force, the dam is still gorgeous. The next few months will be an especially lovely time to visit because of the perfect blend of winding highway drive, the fall foliage, and the cascades. Nature photographers should always reserve a day to visit Natural Dam in the fall.
This park-and-we’re-here cascade is such a great escape for waterfall chasers of any skill level.
Flickr/hiker.guy30 Natural Dam isn’t the only no-hiking waterfall. Bring a picnic or just your camera to one of these breezy waterfalls!
