There’s no denying that the town’s most popular attraction is the Old Courthouse Museum, which is one of America’s most recognizable courthouses. The courtroom scene in Harper Lee’s “To Kill a Mockingbird” was modeled after the Old Monroe County Courthouse’s courtroom.

In fact, the courtroom was also recreated on a sound stage in Hollywood for the blockbuster film. More than 30,000 people visit Monroeville each year to see this famous courtroom in person.

And finally, no visit to Monroeville is complete without a trip to Mel’s Dairy Dream. This old fashioned hamburger stand, which serves the best milkshakes around, sits on the former site of Truman Capote’s childhood home.
