To those who aren’t already aware, each year the American Planning Association puts together a list of places around that country that are noteworthy for their contributions to making local communities more equitable, accessible, welcoming, and both environmentally and economically sustainable for residents. Throughout the years, only four places from New York State have ever made this list – Central Park in New York City, Delaware Park in Buffalo, Queens Botanical Park in Flushing, and Grand Central Terminal in New York City. Now joining the list of commendable places in the Empire State, see how this year the Mohawk Valley Gateway Overlook Bridge made its way onto this list of our country’s great places.

Unveiling their 2019 list of Great Places in America, the American Planning Association recently shined a light on the Mohawk Valley Gateway Overlook Bridge.

As you explore this park over the river, you’ll find a total of 12 stopping points along the way that gives you the chance to learn more about major points in the area’s history that include subjects covering things like canals, railroads, water power, factories, Native Americans, and more.

As much as we love to dive into the area’s history and all the different informational points along the way, the Mohawk Valley Gateway Overlook Bridge is also popular for another reason.

With panoramic views of the city and the river, you’ll find people from all over coming to take a stroll over this pedestrian bridge.

Only built back in 2016, this relatively new structure in our state is one that still remains unknown to many and makes for a charming place to spend some time outside.
