Here in Ohio, the holiday season is truly a magical season. All throughout the state, you’ll find everything from Christmas castles to nutcracker villages. It’s also a time for nostalgia and fond memories of yesteryear. If you’re interested in learning about the Christmases of decades past and how Christmas is celebrated around the world, there’s a special exhibit in Youngstown you’ll want to check out. The Mahoning Valley Historical Society hosts an annual holiday exhibit at The Arms Family Museum called “Memories of Christmas Past”—and it’s just as magical as it sounds.

For the 12th year in a row, The Arms Family Museum is hosting its most beloved and popular exhibit, “Memories of Christmas Past.”

Mahoning Valley Historical Society/Facebook Designer and collector Anthony Worrellia plans the exhibit all year long, gathering pieces for a special theme to showcase each year.

This year’s theme is “By the Fireside” and it’s “inspired by the museum’s mix of fireplaces from the Arts and Crafts Design Movement and later architectural styles,” according to the historical society’s website.

Mahoning Valley Historical Society/Facebook The exhibit is open until January 5 on Tuesday - Sunday from noon - 4 p.m. and on Twilight Thursdays from 4 - 7 p.m.

You’ll journey through 7 period rooms, elaborately decorated to showcase Christmas from the 19th-century to Mid-Century Modern.

Mahoning Valley Historical Society/Facebook Please note: The museum is closed on Christmas Eve and Christmas Day.

Each room showcases a specific time period and/or part of the world. You’ll observe everything from European to Asian influences and learn about how the holiday is celebrated around the world.

Mahoning Valley Historical Society/Facebook Santa’s Story Hour will also take place on Sundays from 2 p.m. - 3 p.m.

Admission to Memories of Christmas Past is $10 per person, $8 for children ages 3 - 18 and $9 for seniors and college students. (Tickets include same-day visit to all MVHS sites.)
