Look For A Little Cat At This Haunted Train Station Near Pittsburgh

How do you usually respond when you hear that a spot near you has been frequented by ghosts? Do you feel a chill shiver up and down your spine? Or, do you just roll your eyes, shrug your shoulders, and move on to the next topic of discussion? If you don’t believe in the paranormal, you may have to rethink that if you make the trek to this haunted train station near Pittsburgh.

Mars attracts plenty of tourists just because it’s, well, Mars. The residents call themselves Martians. The small town hosts Mars New Year celebrations every two years, and you’ll even see a spaceship right smack dab in the middle of town.

Besides being a quaint town dotted with charming shops, restaurants, and Martians, Mars also has its own haunted tale to tell. It might even compel you to visit the town that sits just a half an hour north of Pittsburgh.

Mars Train Station originally opened in 1897, but the station moved during the summer of 2000. The story, however, begins where the train station first sat. Back in those days, a cat used to hang out there, accompanying her owner to work each day.

The cat spent her days at the train station every day for several one years until one day she just stopped coming. That was the end of that, or so it seemed.

Fast forward to the end of the 20th century, when crews worked to relocate the train station, so it could be restored and transformed into a museum.

During the moving process, workers discovered the remains of a cat in the foundation of the original location of the train station. Many, who knew the story of the cat who came to work with her owner every day, believed it could be Chessie (that’s what they named her).

Once the train station had been moved, strange things started happening. Workers and visitors began hearing the sounds of a cat meowing – but there was no cat. Some would even tell of seeing a small cat running past them.

Perhaps, most eerily, workers tell of a time when they found a fresh paw print – in the sawdust of a board that had just been cut.

Most have come to believe that Chessie, who is frequently seen crossing the railroad tracks, is still desperately searching for her owner.

Other tells a tale of seeing the outline of a homeless man, who froze to death many years ago, strolling on the railroad tracks late at night when everything is quiet.
