We know the weather’s always a little wacky in Kansas, but this year, even the Farmer’s Almanac is saying we should keep our eyes peeled. They’re calling it a “polar coaster” and we couldn’t agree more. Sometimes the ups and downs of Kansas weather is just like a roller coaster, but in the winter, that’s not really news we want to hear. But what does it really mean?

The winter scenes we actually want to see involve calm snow, no ice, and little wind. However, that’s not a Kansas forecast.

According to the Farmers’ Almanac, we are expecting something they call a “Polar Coaster,” taking our temperatures for a ride up and down just like in a theme park.

With temperatures and winter weather going up and down all the time, we’re sure to have a lot of ice, but we can hope.

The worst of our winter is set to arrive around late January and early February, which isn’t too surprising, but the terms “frigid and snowy” aren’t exactly comforting.

Spring of course will get a slow start after such a wet winter, especially if there’s ice involved like they predict.

That means you should make sure you’re stocked up all winter so you don’t have to rush to the store every time a storm rolls through and risk coming back empty handed. Better safe than sorry, right?

Let’s hope this at least means we get a white Christmas, and not too much ice. We’ll keep our fingers crossed that this is one prediction that doesn’t turn out too correct.
