Let’s talk turkey, Oregon. Since 1879, Huber’s Cafe has been serving some of the tastiest turkey in the Beaver State, and its turkey sandwiches are legendary. If you’ve never tried one for yourself, it’s about time. Check it out:
Huber’s Cafe is the oldest restaurant in Portland, and one of the oldest in the entire state. When it opened back in 1879, it was called the “Bureau Saloon.”

Back in the early days, you got a free turkey sandwich with every drink purchased. As you can imagine, the saloon made a lot of turkey sandwiches every day!

The Louie family has been involved in Huber’s since those early days when it was a saloon and Frank Huber hired Jim Louie to cook for him.
Huber’s/Facebook Mr. Louie was a new immigrant to the U.S. from China, and when Frank died in 1912, Jim took over running the place. Andrew Louie (Jim’s nephew) later purchased Huber’s from Frank’s son in the 1960s, and today, the restaurant is still owned by the Louie family.
The turkey sandwich is still legendary at Huber’s, and you can get it several different ways. The Clubhouse is tasty, and comes with bacon, lettuce, and tomato.

The classic turkey sandwich is made with turkey, lettuce, and tomato on sourdough, and you can also get a turkey, cream cheese, and cranberry sandwich, or a smoked turkey sandwich.

You might also want to try the roast young Tom turkey, with mashed potatoes, gravy, and sage dressing, or get a roast turkey drumstick. No matter how you enjoy your turkey at Huber’s, it’s absolutely delicious.

Visit Huber’s Cafe Monday through Thursday from 11:30 a.m. to Midnight; Friday and Saturday til 1 a.m. On Sunday, the restaurant is open 4 p.m. to 11 p.m.
