One of the most prominent natural landmarks in South Carolina affords never-ending views of the Blue Ridge Escarpment, Table Rock, and the surrounding mountains and valleys below. Natives and tourists alike often make the long, scenic drive up the mountain to the lone overlook known as Ceasars Head, located within Caesars Head State Park.
But don’t think for a moment the adventure ends with gazing at some of the most beautiful views in the state.

If you’ll simply turn on your heels away from the view and walk a few steps in the opposite direction, you’ll soon see it:

This is one adventure you may want to pass up if you have an issue with being in tight places.

Native American legends passed down through generations say the devil himself made this huge granite mountain crack in just this way. The tale includes the devil pouring hot liquid (it was tea, of course) in just the right place to form the 90-degree breaks.

Whether you believe the devil made the cracks, or that water cooling in tiny cracks froze and literally broke the rock as it expanded, you’ll still want to seek out the rock with a keen resemblance to a devils head. Do you see it here?
