If you’ve yet to explore the little-known state park called Nelson-Kenendy Ledges in Garrettsville, you’re truly missing out. Tucked away in the northeast portion of the state, you’ll find deep green gorges, unique rock formations and even a waterfall cave. The next time you find yourself craving a little adventure, consider taking a day trip to this stunning state park that simply doesn’t get enough attention.

Portage County is home to this 160-acre park, which features rugged cliffs, hidden waterfalls, unique hiking trails and diverse plant life.

The trails vary in length and difficulty and are marked by color: White, Red, Yellow and Blue.

The short and sweet .5-mile trek to Cascade Falls is a popular spot for locals and visitors alike.

Cascade Falls is a small waterfall that’s best seen after heavy rainfall. It’s beautiful year-round, however, even when it’s frozen in the winter.
